Twitter & Teamwork : Spring 2017's best journalism strategies

Revenue loss and increased stress from outside forces are pushing U.S. journalists to public mediums and to collaborate with each other.

Spring 2017's top journalism strategies: Tweet threads and industry collaboration.

Tweet threads are an up-and-coming way journalists can tell stories in a simple, creative, and free manner. One of the most moving and culturally significant stories I've ever seen was a series of tweet threads from NYT reporter Rukmini Callimachi documenting the trip to West Mosul as she accompanied U.S. and Iraqi soldiers fighting ISIS.

An example of this digital collaboration can be seen in a tweet thread from ProPublica editor Eric Umansky. ProPublica, The New York Times, and the Associated Press worked together to release the financial disclosure forms for some of Trump's White House staff.

Typically, the White House will publish their own financial disclosures, but this administration had more than a few reasons to keep them private. In addition to social media and collaboration, news organizations are using tools like secure Google Docs forms and things like DocumentCloud to find and report on information.

The major news organizations mentioned above are using these new tools not only to report news, but to stay relevant. I believe this trend of working together could foster better journalism practices, as well as more comprehensive storytelling.
